The Feminist Art movement in the West arose in the late 1960s amidst the passion of American anti-war demonstrations and increasing gender, civil, and queer rights movements around the world. Looking back to the idealistic styles of early- 20th- century modernist movements, Feminist artists sought to rewrite the falsely male-dominated art history, revise the existing world around them through their art, intercede in the established art world, and contest the existing art canon.
